Geometric Corten Steel Deer Sculptures
The Corten Steel Sculpture Collection
These stunning sculptures are designed and made by engineer and artist, Barry McCann. They are handcrafted in the UK using 2mm Corten steel. Whichever distance or angle they are viewed from, they perfectly capture the movement and stance of a real stag, doe and buck. Over time, they will oxidise and patina to a characterful and beautiful finish. The orange and brown hues are particularly attractive when positioned among the greens of a mature landscape. They form an elegant focal point in either residential or commercial projects and are designed and built to last several lifetimes.
The collection consists of three distinct sculptures that work beautifully as a family group or as standalone pieces.
About The Artist
Every sculpture in this collection is designed and fabricated by Barry McCann a Northern Ireland-based engineer and artist working from his dedicated studio and workshop. His background in engineering and metal fabrication brings structural precision to his artistic practice, allowing him to translate the natural grace of the deer form into mathematically balanced geometric angles.
Barry was drawn to the deer form for its ability to convey movement and presence through clean, angular lines.
Why Corten Steel?
Corten steel, also known as weathering steel, is a self-protecting alloy engineered for decades of outdoor use. When exposed to the elements, it develops a stable, rust-like patina that seals the surface and protects the underlying metal from structural degradation. Unlike mild steel, it requires no painting, coating, or treatment.
In a typical UK or Irish climate, the patination process takes between 6 and 18 months. The surface moves from its initial raw metallic state through vibrant orange-red, eventually settling into a deep, rich brown. After that point, the sculpture is entirely self-maintaining.
Metal Made Special works extensively with Corten steel across a wide range of fabrication projects — from gates and railings to large-scale architectural installations. Find out more about our Corten Steel work.

Corten Steel Sculpture FAQs
How is the sculpture secured to prevent it blowing over?
Every MetalMade sculpture is supplied with a fixing system specifically designed for its size and location. For hard surfaces such as concrete, paving or stone, heavy-duty expansion anchors fix through the welded steel feet for a permanent, discreet installation. For soft ground, steel ground anchors are driven deep into the ground through the sculpture feet. All fixing points are integrated into the sculpture design so they don’t affect its appearance.
Can the sculptures be fixed to hard surfaces as well as soil and grass?
For hard surfaces: such as concrete, paving or stone, each sculpture is fixed through its welded steel feet using heavy-duty expansion anchors, providing a permanent and discreet installation.
For soft ground: such as lawns, borders and landscaped areas, specially manufactured steel ground anchors pass through the sculpture feet and are driven deep into the ground, providing excellent stability while remaining virtually invisible once installed.
Every sculpture is supplied with both fixing types as standard.
