Working on historic properties like Gosford Castle presents a unique opportunity. It allows us to combine our craftsmanship with the rich history of a site. We were recently commissioned to design and install new period-style railings for the castle.
The main challenge was to create new railings that looked like they had always been part of the castle’s original design.
Respecting Historic Architecture
Gosford Castle has a very distinct architectural style. When adding new elements, they must complement the existing decor. We spent time understanding the specific aesthetic of the castle.
Our design process focused on crafting railings that would blend seamlessly. We paid close attention to the details, such as the shape of the balusters and the flow of the handrail. The aim was to produce a result that felt authentic to the period, rather than a modern addition.
Combining Durability with Design
While the appearance had to be traditional, the performance needed to be modern. We constructed the railings from high-quality, durable steel. This ensures they are strong, safe, and built to last.
To protect the steel and maintain its elegant finish, we used our proven two-stage protection process:

Galvanising: Each piece was hot-dip galvanised. This creates a robust layer of zinc that prevents rust.

Powder Coating: A final, durable powder coat was then applied. This not only provides the desired finish but also adds a further layer of protection against the elements.
A Seamless Integration
The finished railings enhance Gosford Castle. They provide a safe and sturdy handrail for visitors, while also adding to the building’s historical charm.
