metalmade to restore
metalmade was commissioned to comprehensively overhaul and refurbish this historically important former “obelisk” plinth on the walls of Derry/Londonderry. This included constructing a new staircase internally to make the attraction more assessable to visitors and recreating the original cast-iron treads.
-
To deliver this project successfully, we had to liaise closely with the local architects, historians and other stakeholders to ensure that our interpretation of the architectural details was in keeping with the period.
-
For the new railings around the entrance to the spiral staircase, we accurately reproduced the design of the existing metalwork from the original installation in the 1800s.
-
The existing spiral staircase was no longer fit for purpose, so we replaced it with a compliant spiral staircase that echoed the essence of the original.
-
Honouring Derry/Londonderry’s heritage through meticulous historic metalwork our restoration expertise is showcased in the reinstated elements of architectural metalwork created by our bespoke steel fabrication craftsmen. As with many of our projects in public realm enhancement, our architectural integrity is clearly evident.
